NATURAL PARK OF THE HOCES DEL RÍO DURATÓN
(50 minutes from the hotel)
This natural park located in the province of Segovia has an area of more than 25 km. full of large gorges that can reach 100 meters.
One of its most emblematic places is the hermitage of San Frutós. On the way to this beautiful hermitage, 1 km. from the nearest place where you can leave the car, you will find several viewpoints from which you can contemplate the gorges and the Burgomillodo reservoir. From the car park where you leave your car to go to this hermitage, you can also reach the Monastery of Our Lady of the Angels of the Sickle, which, although it is in ruins, has a beautiful viewpoint at the top of it.
Also in the Hoces del Río Duratón there are some caves with engravings from the Bronze Age and the architectural complexes of the nearby towns of Sepúlveda and Pedraza.
In this natural park there is also the possibility of canoeing on the Duratón River, a very interesting and fun activity for those who like active tourism.
Therefore, this area is perfect for a day trip where you can enjoy nature, historical-artistic complexes, gastronomy or sport.
NATURAL PARK OF THE HOCES DEL RÍO RIAZA
(20 minutes from the hotel)
Very close to our hotel, practically on the border between Burgos and Segovia, but belonging to the province of Segovia, is this natural park considered to be one of the largest collections of gorges, canyons and ravines on the Iberian Peninsula. It is a really interesting area for bird lovers, as it is home to species such as griffon vultures, golden eagles and Egyptian vultures, among other species. The fundamental axis of the park is the Riaza River, which is home to dense vegetation of oak and juniper groves. And, following the course of the river, you will reach a limestone canyon 150 metres deep and more than 200 metres wide where the hermitage of El Casuar is located. Its most famous towns are Maderuelo (a town declared a historical-artistic site) and Montejo de la Vega de la Serrezuela. One of its most famous routes is El Casuar, a beautiful route that begins and ends in the town of Valdevacas de Montejo. Here you can find all the routes that you can do in this natural park.
CAÑON DE RÍO LOBOS NATURAL PARK
(55 minutes from the hotel)
The more than 10,000 hectares of this natural park are spread between the provinces of Burgos and Soria, with the largest part belonging to the latter. This natural reserve is known for its beautiful hiking trails and also for the Templar hermitage of San Bartolomé. You can also see places like Cueva Grande, Colmenar de los Frailes or admire spectacular views from the Mirador de la Galiana or from the Balconcillo, a natural hole in a rock that serves as a viewing point . The Natural Park has 3 accesses, from Hontoría del Pinar in the province of Burgos, from the Puente de los 7 Ojos on the road from San Leonardo to Santa María de las Hoya, in Soria, or from Ucero, also in Soria, where the most beautiful landscapes and the most visited areas of the canyon are found. Here we leave you the 4 most popular hiking routes in the Cañón del Río Lobos (although there are many more) so that you can enjoy this spectacular natural enclave to the fullest.
